Accreditation

Accreditation: Becoming accredited is voluntary on the part of any school. Many students are concerned about accreditation, and rightly so. Accreditation is one way for prospective students to know that a school and the programs which it offers have been recognized by an association higher than itself. Unfortunately, misunderstandings have developed which have misled some students. Many are confused as to what accreditation actually is. Basically, accreditation is a way by which educational institutions determine the acceptance of credits or degrees.

It is important to note that accreditation does not guarantee success to a student, nor the acceptance of credits from one institution to another. Every student who is thoroughly prepared for his or her respective ministry will generally find doors opened on the basis of proven competence rather than a degree from an accredited institution. This in no way is said to demean the roll of accrediting organizations, simply place them in proper prospective

Bethany is . . .

1. Licensed and approved by the Alabama State Board of Education to operate as a degree granting institution.

2. Incorporated under the laws of the State of Alabama and is recognized by the U.S. Department of Internal Revenue Service as a non-profit religious institution.

3. Approved by the Veteran Administration for veterans who attend on-site classes.

4. Approved (college division) by the Evangelical Training Association, formerly known as ETTA, to award the ETA certificates.

5 . A member of the United States Distance Learning Association (this is not an accrediting association). To learn more about the USDLA, you may access their web site here. To view Bethany's listing with the USDLA, you may access the listing here.

6. Bethany has been granted "Affiliate Status" with the Association for Biblical Higher Education. The ABHE is recognized by CHEA and CORPA, and listed by the United States Department of Education as a nationally recognized accrediting agency. For more information concerning "Affiliate Status" - Go here

Note: The primary focus of the Association for Biblical Higher Education is accreditation, but non-member institutions may also relate to the Association through an Affiliate Status. This affords affiliate institutions the opportunity to take advantage of many of the programs and services that the Association provides without becoming an accredited member. Affiliation with the Association is not to be confused with accreditation.
